Can’t get past the login screen? We’ve all been there. Most Single Sign-On (SSO) issues are usually a quick fix involving a browser setting or a simple sync error. Use this guide to get back into your apps without the headache.
🛠 Quick Fixes to Try First
Before diving into technical settings, try these "universal" solutions:
Check Your VPN: If you are working remotely, ensure you are connected to the company VPN. Some internal apps require a secure tunnel to verify your credentials.
Clear Your Cache: Your browser might be trying to use an expired "handshake" token. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then restart the browser.
Incognito Mode: Try signing in via a Private/Incognito window. If it works there, a browser extension is likely interfering with the SSO redirect.
🚩 Identifying Common Errors
"Authentication Failed" or "Invalid Credentials" This usually means your main system password wasn't recognized. Double-check that Caps Lock is off and ensure you aren't using an old password saved in your browser's autofill settings.
"User Not Assigned to Application" This is a permissions issue rather than a technical glitch. It means your account hasn't been granted access to this specific software. Please contact your manager to request an access update via the Identity Management portal.
The "Infinite Login Loop" If the page keeps refreshing or sending you back to the login screen without an error, your browser is likely blocking Third-Party Cookies. Ensure cookies are enabled for our SSO domain (e.g., okta.com or microsoftonline.com).
🔐 Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Issues
If you aren't receiving your push notification or security code:
Check Signal: Ensure your mobile device has a stable internet or cellular connection.
Open the App Manually: Sometimes notifications don't "pop." Open your Authenticator app manually to see if a request is waiting for approval.
Use a Backup: If you replaced your phone recently, you may need to use a backup code or contact IT to reset your MFA device registration.
🧪 Advanced: Checking Time Synchronization
SSO relies on security tokens that are extremely time-sensitive. If your computer clock is off by even two minutes, the server will reject your login for security reasons.
Windows: Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time > Click Sync Now.
Mac: System Settings > General > Date & Time > Toggle Set time and date automatically OFF and then back ON.
